I want to make your manuscript shine! I offer a friendly approach to editing and will provide detailed edits and explanations. I do this for two reasons: 1) So you can polish your manuscript, and 2) To ensure you understand why the edits were recommended and can apply them toward future writing. I’m here to help you shape up your writing, but also to help you learn.
I previously worked as the in-house editor for The Knight Agency’s assisted self-publishing program, working with hybrid authors on their projects from start to finish. Need some coaching on self-publishing best practices in addition to your edits? Or, need some advice as you prepare to query agents? I’m available to answer any questions you may have.
I mainly specialize in developmental edits and editorial assessments, taking earlier drafts and helping writers push their stories to the next level.
I edit young adult fiction and romance, as well as middle grade. YA is my main area of interest; some favorites include Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman, One of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus, and You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone by Rachel Lynn Solomon. Some favorite romances include The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang and Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes. Middle grades I adore include When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead, The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin, and Wonder by R. J. Palacio. I would love to work on manuscripts in a similar vein as these books.
As far as genres and subjects go, I love:
- Historical/time travel (for romance)
- Coming of age
- Friendship and/or family stories
- Social issues
- Stories about death/losing someone
- Romantic relationships
However, I am not the best fit for fantasy.
That said, if I feel I can’t give you the edit you need, I’ll let you know! I can always refer you to a colleague.
Disclaimer: The publishing industry is subjective, and working with me on your project does not guarantee placement with an agent or publisher. While I can help shape your novel and get it ready for its next steps, I am of course unable to guarantee the outcome.
Please review each edit type and fill out the form below if you would like to request one of these services. If you’re still unsure of what you need, feel free to reach out so we can decide which one works best for you!
Manuscript Evaluation This is an introductory service, and a great place to start if you’ve completed a manuscript but aren’t sure how to begin the revision process. I will evaluate your full manuscript’s strengths and areas for growth in an editorial letter. This service does not include inline comments; instead, the editorial letter you receive will help open a discussion about how to improve your manuscript in general. Rate: $0.01/word
Developmental Edit - Full Manuscript This service is the most comprehensive option, and a great choice if your manuscript has already undergone one or two big-picture edits (either through self-editing, critique partners/beta readers, or a manuscript evaluation). Developmental editing includes substantial content feedback. You will receive notes on various factors, such as voice, character motivation, scene structure, sequence of events, and general feedback as necessary. A developmental edit includes inline comments directly in the manuscript in addition to an editorial letter. Rate: $0.02/word
Partial Manuscript Edit This service is meant for writers who are looking for a specific number of pages to be critiqued (e.g., first 50, 100, etc.), and/or are not ready to take the plunge on a full manuscript edit. A partial manuscript edit can be structured as either an evaluation or developmental edit (see above). Rate: $0.02/word (developmental) OR $0.01/word (evaluation)
Copyedit This service is mainly recommended for writers who are self-publishing, and is meant for manuscripts that have already gone through a series of big-picture/developmental edits. Once your story is where you want it, a copyedit includes inline edits at the sentence level, reworking sentence structure, grammar checks, and focusing on the general flow of the piece. I will also fact-check certain elements and ensure consistency in the spelling of names, places, etc. Rate: $0.018/word

Rate: $100 flat fee
